ASADOR LA SALAMANDRA - L'ANDRAGO MEETING POINT, MORAIRA

The l'Andrago area of Moraira has long been a meeting place to eat, drink and relax and take in the beautiful views across the bay to Moraira. A couple of years ago, a new complex (Meeting Place) was built to further enhance the tranquil area. Last week we joined a group of friends for the inaugural dinner/dance with the Duo Romance at the Asador La Salamandra.
The Restaurant is situated in a very Romantic location, an ideal setting if you are looking for a place to wine, dine and dance. You cannot but be impressed by the quality of the decor as you enter. There is a well stocked Bodega where you can sit and relax whilst choosing from the menu. One side of the Restaurant is floor to ceiling glass giving you full views out to sea whilst dining. There was a party of 40 people besides ourselves and so, we dined on the upstairs balcony giving us even better panoramic views.
From the table layout to the service to the food - all was of a very high standard. The Menu del dia is 18 €uros p/p inc. IVA for a 3 course meal including a bottle of wine for 2 persons. There was a choice of three starters, three entrees and a tasty array of ice-cream delicacies for dessert. Al this was supplemented by an excellent choice of house wines. Between our party we tasted every choice there was on the menu, all were devoured with big smiles and rave reviews. Jorge is the Maitre d' and general overseer, who previously worked in a 2 star Michellin Restaurant and together with his excellent staff will give you a truly memorable night. The Duo Romance play dance music from the 60's. 70's, and 80's etc., Disco, Swing, Jazz, Jive, Rock n' Roll, Latin and ballroom etc., There is always the occasional highly requested classical interlude sung by Tracie.

LA GOTA FRIA..

I must apologise for my not having made any entries for quite some time but i rather lost the will to write, when, during LA GOTA FRIA, our house was struck by lightning! It happened on the night of the 15th September 2009, a date that i am unlikely to forget. La Gota Fria - the cold drop, is a cold front that stays in place for some time causing continuous heavy rain and eventual flooding. it is expected every autumn and sometimes it may not come, but it has done for the past 2 years. During the hot summer weather evaporation occurs and sea water is drawn up, into the atmosphere. if a cold front moves in above it, the moisture is then trapped and falls as a constant heavy downpour for several days, under lowering skies accompanied by thunder and lightning - Terrifying! We were fortunate that we were unharmed, but we did suffer a financial blow, as the house was not insured. It has taken several months to recuperate our losses and get back on track. The ironical thing is that the bolt of lightning struck the wind turbine's mast and ricocheted off, into the timber shed adjoining the house and blew up our solar power equipment. I hasten to add the wind turbine and mast has consequently, been sold! I must say that i will not be sorry to see the back of 2009 and am looking forward to welcoming in the new year 2010.

EL CASERON HOTEL & OLIVE BRANCH RESTAURANT, SEMPERE


27th November 2009..

El Caseron is a 200 year old, traditional Casa Rural, originally a coach house, it is situated, in a pituresque, fairytale setting, in Sempere, the smallest village, in the region, with less than 30 local residents including the Town hall's Mayor. We were given a warm welcome from the owners Kim, Martin, Denis and Annie, as they ushered us, through, a tiny door just like the onein Alice in Wonderland to the cries of "Watch your head" (too late! René had a bump the size of a quails egg that night), into a cosy dining room decorated with traditional spanish furnishings, and authentic, valencian wooden beams. There was a burning fire in the hearth and the room was already, abuzz with chatter from 50 expectant diners. We had a great night and can't wait to return. If you fancy a relaxing weekend away from the hustle and bustle of the coastal towns, then I highly recommend El Caseron. Monday, 14th December 2009..

Let there be light ! - There was a tempestuous storm, with high winds and heavy rain, that night, which hit Teulada and the surrounding areas, causing an electrical power cut and plunging Moiraira and the El Andaluz into total darkness. However, this did in no way, not deter the 70 odd, members of the BBC, who should by the way, be commended for their bravery, valiantly, braving the storm to join, in the pre-christmas celebrations. The blackout was to last over 3 hours. during which, the meal was served by candlelight. However the lights came back on at 10.30 pm which meant that we were able to perform, thus saving the day, or rather the night.

Wednesday, 16th December 2009....

Monroe's Carvery & the Norma Jean Pub is a British style pub and restaurant, located, in an idyllic country hamlet, at the entrance to Monte Pedreguer, offering lunch/dinner and live music. Last year, we had the pleasure of working for the owner Heidi and her friendly staff, This year we returned to perform for the Monroes pre-celebration Christmas Party. After a traditional Christmas meal with all the trimmings, we took centre stage and performed a variety of christmas carols, followed by non-stop dance music. i would like to take this opportunity to thank Karen for her kindness and hospitality and congratulate her for having organized such a successful festive event.

CHRISTMAS DAY AT EL ANDALUZ & THE UNIVERSITY OF THE THIRD AGE, JAVEA...


25th December 2009...

We performed to a full house of 180, at EL ANDALUZ, on Christmas Day, which included 70 fine members of the U3A . Javea. It was, as per last year, an afternoon performance. I would like to thank Angela Chantry, President of the U3A Javea and fellow members for their having presented us, with a Christmas gift, and Card. I also appreciated Angela's kind words when she thanked us for giving up our christmas day, every year, to entertain them all.

31st December 2009... Yet again, we performed to a full house of 180 at EL ANDALUZ. The atmosphere was Apparently, it was so successful that they that they have received bookings for next year!!! Because boxing day fell, on saturday, it meant that we were obliged to sing again. We were not expecting any diners to turn up, but, amazingly, there was quite a good turn out.

It always feels rather strange to still, be singing christmas songs or villancicos navidenos, so long after Christmas day. We performed at EL ANDALUZ, in the afternoon, to a very enthusiastic. audience, mainly, made up of a few local spanish families, which meant that we were to sing, mainly, Spanish and Latin American songs. I don't know how many times i had to sing Feliz Navidad! but it was great fun. Hey, Feliz Navidad!

STRICTLY COME DANCING WITH THE DUO ROMANCE AT EL ANDALUZ

We have been performing, at the restaurant EL Andaluz, Moraira for the past 16 months, and during this time, we have acquired quite a following of avid dancers. You could say that the EL Andaluz has become a Strictly come Dancing venue. We have developed an extensive dance Repertory which includes latin & ballroom dancing and attracts an International crowd. Our music, a blast from the past, includes songs from the 60's, 70's, 80's etc., Disco, swinging jazz, jive, Rock n Roll, Salsas, Meringues, Rumbas, Pasodobles etc., And there is still the highly requested classical interlude where i get the opportunity to sing the occasional sacred aria.

LA CASETA DE L'ARROS, MORAIRA - X LEMON TREE

Under new management, you will receive a warm welcome from Gala & Vasco at the restaurant La Caseta de l'Arros, specializing in national & International cuisine with a large variety of rice, meat & fish dishes, and in addition to the lunches and daily specials. We will be performing, at la caseta, every friday evening for a dinner & dance from 9 h until midnight. There will be a special 3 course meal for only 12 €uros including wine or beer and water or if you prefer there is always, á la carte. la caseta de l'arros offers a friendly service and excellent food and wine at reasonable prices, served in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. The restaurant is situated next to the the Hotel Los Linoneros c/mar de Sargazos, Moraira. Tel. 669 63 37 33. Regrettably, due to a discord, between owner and management, this venue has now, been closed.
